Open Gardens 2026

What a fantastic day we had on Sunday for Open Gardens. The weather was kind (what's one little cloudburst between friends?!), the gardens beautiful, the atmosphere genial with a record number of visitors (439) and made a net profit of over £3,000.

The Friends want to thank every single gardener who opened their private sanctuaries to the public - it's no mean task to prepare for the day and to have up to 300 people walk through your garden! This generosity of spirit is what makes the day feel so special.

Thank you too to all who visited and donated amply for refreshments and plants as they explored the town and its hidden spaces.

We're also grateful to the Chamber of Trade who continue to support Open Gardens; and to shopkeepers and businesses who helped us promote the event.

A little reminder that all the funds we raise at Open Gardens go to maintain and enhance Castle Vale, Coronation and Flagstaff Parks in the town. We buy equipment and plants for the parks, our volunteers work alongside Northumberland County Council's Parks Officer, Kate Dixon, gardening in the parks and we pay for the free events that we organise in the parks. If you'd like to be involved in the work we do in any way, we'd love to hear from you.
